Pacific Relocation's take

Where we send people who want character over polish.

The Drive is the answer for relocation clients — often academics, creative-industry hires, and returning expats — who tell us they want to feel like they live somewhere, not in a finished condo. It's genuinely walkable, transit is unbeatable with three SkyTrain services meeting at Commercial-Broadway, and the food and café density rivals any neighbourhood in the city for a fraction of west-side rent. The trade-off is honest: the public-school scores here are middling, so families fixated on Fraser rankings tend to look further south or west. Housing skews to character walk-ups and suited houses rather than new builds, which means more charm and more quirks — confirm heat, laundry, and parking in writing. We pre-place Drive clients early in the year; the best character units never reach the open market.

Our advice

Before you sign a lease

  • Most Drive rentals are in pre-1960 character houses and walk-ups — ask explicitly about heat source, insulation, and whether laundry is in-suite or shared
  • Basement and garden suites are common and not all are legal — request the City legal-suite confirmation before signing
  • Street parking is permit-only and scarce; a dedicated spot is rare and worth confirming, not assuming
