Green Lake

Life organized around a lake loop — the north end's active-family pick.

Pacific Relocation's take

For active families who want a park as their front yard.

Green Lake is exactly what it sounds like — a neighborhood organized around a lake and its three-mile loop, where the running, dog-walking, and stroller culture is the actual draw. We steer active families and fitness-minded couples here, especially those who liked Wallingford but wanted more green and a touch more space. Schools are solid (Green Lake and Bagley elementaries both rate well) and the north-end commute is manageable by bus or car. The housing is predominantly craftsman bungalows and 1920s fourplexes, with newer townhomes filling in along the arterials. Inventory near the lake itself moves fast in spring; we usually pre-place clients before the summer rush.

Our advice

Before you sign a lease

  • Lake-adjacent blocks see heavy weekend foot and parking traffic — confirm dedicated parking in the lease
  • Some older bungalows still have knob-and-tube wiring that complicates renter's insurance — verify
  • Aurora Avenue (Hwy 99) borders the west side with noise and safety concerns — walk the western blocks at night
