Fremont

Quirky canal-side village where tech offices meet artist roots.

Pacific Relocation's take

Where tech transferees who want personality over polish tend to land.

Fremont calls itself the center of the universe and behaves like it — a self-aware village of brewpubs, a troll under the bridge, and Google and Adobe campuses lining the canal. It's a strong fit for younger couples and singles who want walkability and food culture without Capitol Hill's intensity, plus a flat Burke-Gilman commute toward South Lake Union. Schools are a genuine asset here: the B.F. Day catchment is one of the north end's best, which keeps a surprising number of our young families in place. Housing is a mix of 1900s craftsman, canal-front mid-rises, and a handful of houseboats. We place a steady share of Amazon and Adobe clients here, and the ones without school-age kids rarely want to leave.

Our advice

Before you sign a lease

  • Canal-front and low-lying blocks near N 34th have historic flooding exposure — ask about ground-floor water history
  • Aurora Bridge traffic noise carries to the eastern blocks; visit at rush hour before signing
  • Houseboat and floating-home leases carry moorage fees and utility quirks not covered by a standard lease — read the addenda
