Pacific Relocation's take
Turn-key convenience for clients who land with a car and a calendar.
Barkley is our default for corporate relocations and cross-border commuters who want a new-construction apartment, parking that simply works, and groceries within a hundred metres. The master-planned village core — Haggen, the Regal cinema, a library branch, medical and dental offices — covers most weekly needs without leaving the neighborhood, and the Sunset Drive interchange puts you on I-5 north toward the Peace Arch border in about half an hour. The Railroad Trail is the sleeper amenity: a flat gravel ride to Whatcom Falls Park or all the way downtown, so 'suburban' here doesn't mean trail-less. Families should plan around the school split — Roosevelt Elementary rates modestly, while Kulshan Middle and Squalicum High are genuine strengths, and several of our placements time their move accordingly. Inventory is the loosest of our four Bellingham picks, with winter move-in specials common at the managed complexes. The trade-off is character: this is a 1990s-onward planned district, tidy rather than storied.

Our advice
Before you sign a lease
- Advertised rents at managed complexes typically exclude mandatory extras — parking ($50–100/mo), pet rent and utility billing fees — so compare full monthly cost, not headline rent
- Move-in concessions ('6 weeks free') often require 13–14 month terms that reset to market on renewal; ask what the post-concession rate will be
- Units facing Newmarket Street and the cinema get evening plaza noise — request a courtyard or trail-side orientation if you're noise-sensitive
