Pacific Relocation's take

Our shortest Portland commute with great schools attached.

West Slope is the address we reach for when a client wants the shortest possible commute into Portland without giving up top schools, and is willing to pay a small premium for both. Sitting just south of Highway 26 and east of 217, it is roughly six miles from downtown Portland and routinely the fastest run of any Beaverton neighborhood, with a dedicated US-26 bike path on top of that. The school story is the other draw: the Sunset High attendance area plus proximity to Jesuit and Catlin Gabel make this a magnet for education-focused families. Housing is mostly mid-century single-family homes on wooded lots, so apartment inventory is thin and pets are negotiated house-by-house. The trade-offs are real walk-score limitations and prices that run above the Beaverton average. We place a lot of relocating Nike and Intel managers here who want the Portland-line commute and the school district in one move.

Our advice

Before you sign a lease

  • Apartment inventory is scarce — most rentals are single-family homes where pet, yard-maintenance and utility terms vary widely, so read the lease line by line
  • The Highway 26 and 217 edges carry steady traffic noise; tour streets near the freeways at rush hour before committing
  • Hillside mid-century homes can hide drainage, foundation and oil-tank issues — ask for disclosure and inspection history before a long lease
